More than 1,000 people recently laced up their sneakers for The Human Race, a fundraising event hosted by Giving DuPage.
People could either participate in a 5K run or two-mile fitness walk.
The event raised money for 28 area not-for-profits who can’t afford to host their own runs, supporting Giving DuPage’s mission of connecting donors and volunteers with opportunities to get involved in local agencies.
When participants registered, they could choose which not-for-profit they wanted to support, including some in Naperville like Loaves & Fishes and the DuPage Children’s Museum.
Donations are accepted through May 1st. At this point, they’ve raised more than $65,000. Giving DuPage will announce which not-for-profit received the most donations at a breakfast in June.
“We just think that this is a great community to get something like this going and I guess it is because people are coming out for it and we got a great day,” said Kathy Blair, Executive Director of Giving DuPage.
Of the funds raised, 60% went to the other organizations with Giving DuPage keeping the rest to cover the costs of the event. The Human Race has been done nationwide for more than 20 years, but this was the first one in DuPage.
