Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler ran into town today. His young cousins wanted to run in the NCO Spring Ahead Kids Fun Run and asked Cutler to join them. Children from around the area came out to run with the NFL player.
“I wanted to run with Jay Cutler,”said Jackson Barnatrt, a Kids Fun Run participant.
Cutler and his youngest cousin took a little more than 10 minutes to complete the race. Then they went to a table where Cutler signed the race bibs of all the kids who ran.
“I guess I’m going to hang it up in my room,” said Ryan McMahon, a Kids Fun Run participant.
One little girl had some bad luck that turned good after she fell at the start of the race and Jay Cutler picked her up.
“He said if I was ok so many times,” said Katie Pastore, a Kids Fun Run participant. “
The Kids Fun Run was only one part of the day. It was NCO Youth & Family Service’s 12th Annual Spring Ahead Run.
“NCO’s been around for 40 years providing services for kids and families in this community,” said Ron Hume, Executive Dirctor of NCO Youth & Family Services.
Adults had the choice of running a 10K or 5K, and runners said the races were a great way to get in shape for running season and support a good cause at the same time.
“It gave me a good opportunity at the beginning part of the season to get back in shape and try something on the local trails that I enjoy,” said Nick Hird, winner of the men’s 10K race.
“It’s fun to be out and amongst other people, and I just love running so it’s a good time,” said Ryan Carrigan, winner of the men’s 5K race.
Whether it was to meet Jay Cutler, or get in a good run, more than 1,000 people pre-registered for the run to help make the day a success.
