One local event showed residents that simply by going around the corner, you could go around the world. Many different cultures gathered at North Central College’s Merner Fieldhouse for the 16th annual International Festival.
Organizers aim to raise awareness of the multiple cultures living in the area and the differences between them.
“If we just take the time to understand these differences, the we won’t get insulted or be shocked that easily,” said North Central international student, Audrey Martin.
The event opened with a flag ceremony presented by local Boy and Girl Scout troops. Children traveled around to table displays to learn about different languages and nationalities.
Performers showcased traditional dances from China, Ireland, and Japan among others. Money raised at the event will help fund the college’s general scholarship fund.
