Residents immersed themselves in Indian culture and heritage in Central Park today during the fifth annual Indian Culture Festival.
The event put on by Simply Vedic, allowed visitors to hear traditional Indian music, sample cuisine from India, and even purchase traditional Indian jewelry and clothes.
The not-for-profit, puts on the event to educate other residents about their culture and traditions.
“We don’t want to limit this just for the Indian community,” said Sharata Sharma, Simply Vedic’s Secretary. “We want to bring this to the community at large. The India people are familiar with this culture because it is their heritage; we want to do this for the people who don’t know. That is the main goal is to create awareness in that community.”
The group hopes to improve the entire city using Vedic principles and foster cultural diversity throughout Naperville.
