One Naperville home is certainly in tune with the holiday spirit. The Marbach family decked their home with about 20,000 lights that flash and glow to the rhythm of popular Christmas music.
“It’s just amazing,” said Richard Reynolds, a Naperville resident who drove by the home on Wild Timothy Lane. “I don’t know how you match the lights to the sound. It’s just incredible.”
Claude Marbach explained how it works. Right after Halloween, he gets busy, spending 80 to 100 hours putting up the lights.
“Then I spend a few hours counting how many strings we put, doing all the math to make sure i don’t overload the circuit and decide how and where everything is to be connected.”
Each strand is plugged into a controller on each side of the house and the controllers are then wired into a computer inside.
Using special software, he can then program which lights go off at what times.
An fm transmitter then plays the music on an un-used radio frequency so drivers passing by can hear and see the synchronized display in action…
Or you can simply watch the family’s Youtube video from the comforts of home.
“It brings a lot of joy. That’s really what it’s about,” said Marbach. “We love Christmas and it makes a lot of people smile.”
This is the family’s fifth year in a row doing the light show and they hope to make it even bigger and brighter next year.
