Consumers nationwide are paying more at the pump this winter as gas prices continue to rise.
At some stations here in Naperville, drivers are paying
more than $4 a gallon which is a 13% rise in one month.
Illinois is one of the most expensive states to purchase fuel in. On average a gallon of regular gasoline costs just under $4.
Prices usually increase as wintertime turns to summer, but this year the rise has come early due to increasing crude oil prices, production cuts, refinery closings, and the distribution of summer blend gasoline.
“It’s certainly not something they’re doing on purpose,” said AAA spokesperson, Beth Mosher. “The refineries are losing money on this, too and I’ll just add that your local gas station is really feeling the pinch. Their profits are very, very thin right now.”
