Twenty students who spend their time helping others were honored for their efforts. The city of Naperville and KidsMatter recently hosted their annual Youth Service Awards.
“Our young people have become success stories,” said IdaLynn Wenhold, Executive Director of KidsMatter. “They are heroes of success. They are without a doubt our greatest hope and our richest resource for the future.”
Nominations for this year’s awards came from 19 local not-for-profits.
The winners included Abby Carter, a hearing impaired girl who volunteers at Gigi’s Playhouse to help students with Down’s Syndrome, and Courtney Kent who has spent more than 1,000 hours at Ready, Set, Ride helping those with special needs and the terminally ill ride horses.
The City of Naperville has presented the Youth Service Awards since 1993.
