North Central College recently honored two fallen cardinals.
Hundreds of fans braved the rain and headed to Benedetti- Wehrli Stadium for the football home opener against the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.
Before the game, school officials honored two former cardinals who died in 2012.
One of the stadium’s namesakes, Al Benedetti, passed away in May. He graduated from North Central in 1948.
2011 alumnus Shaun Wild was killed back in February after being stabbed at Frankie’s Blue Room in downtown Naperville.
School representatives presented Wild and Benedetti’s friends and families with a commemorative framed replica of a stadium flag.
All season football players will don the number 36 on their helmets for Wild, and 29 on their jerseys in honor of Benedetti.
