This year Naper Settlement’s Hometown Picnic was all about the old-school games, from tic-tac-toe to a cookie walk to live music from a barbershop quartet.
But perhaps the most super event was the watermelon seed spitting contest.
Ten year-old Nora Fitzgerald took home top prize in the children’s category, with a distance of more than 12 feet.
And even her mom, district 203 board member Kristin Fitzgerald, launched a seed or two in the adult competition.
This was the second year of the Hometown Picnic. If you missed it, don’t worry. Organizers say it’ll definitely return next year as well.
