Two local soldiers are home for the holidays. Operation Welcome You Home recently planned surprise homecomings for Army Specialists Anthony Rossi and Ryan Luley.
“To have these kids come home for the holidays to be with their families, it’s just, many of their families haven’t seen them in 6 months, a year,” said Donna Morsovillo, President of Operation Welcome You Home. “I can’t even describe the feeling.”
They surprised Rossi at his home, where his family had gathered for a party. Rossi is home on post deployment leave from Germany. Before that he was in Afghanistan and the soldier said he’s glad he gets to spend a few weeks with his family before returning to Germany.
“I’m just happy to see the snow and be back in Chicago with the family,” said Rossi. “Everything’s perfect. I love this. This is great.”
Operation Welcome You Home greeted Ryan Luley straight off the plane from Afghanistan with a flag line. They then escorted him to a party with his family and friends where emotions ran high. Luley’s mother was glad to see him home knowing she’d finally be able to get a solid night’s sleep.
And Luley’s mother wasn’t the only emotional one. The soldier choked up when he saw his young twin sons for the first time in months. Luley will be sent to Germany in January, but before then he’s got some plans.
“Hanging out with my little boys, spending time with my family and just enjoying the little things,” said Luley.
With thousands of soldiers returning from Iraq and Afghanistan, Operation Welcome You Home expects they’ll be having many more homecomings in the months to come.
“We’ll be very busy, and that’s a good thing,” said Jim Morsovillo, Vice President of Operation Welcome You Home.
