Action, romance, musicals and middle Earth, there’s something for everyone at the movies this season.
“We’ve got secret agents, vampires, presidents, a cowboy, a Frenchman and a hairy legged hobbit. All that together is going to make for a really big holiday season,” said Mark Mazrimas, Marketing Manager at Classic Cinemas.
007 kicked off the season this November with “Skyfall”, the 23rd film in the James Bond Series. Its already grossed over $669 million worldwide and is still growing.
Don’t underestimate the power of “Twi–hards”. “Breaking Dawn Part 2”, the final installment of the Twilight saga made its mark as the eighth biggest film opening of all time with a $141.3 million debut weekend.
This holiday season, big directors are partnering up with big names for box office gold.
“Peter Jackson is bringing “The Hobbit” back on an unexpected journey, then Quintin Tarentino, another big director, doesn’t make a lot of movies. “Django Unchained”, you have Jamie Foxx and Leonardo Di Caprio as a bad guy, that’s got to be very interesting,” said Mazrimas.
Another director/actor pairing already generating Oscar buzz; Steven Spielberg and Daniel Day–Lewis in the presidential biopic, “Lincoln”.”
“Any time you have him directing a movie and Daniel Day–Lewis as Lincoln, its going to be a big movie,” said Mazrimas
“Les Miserables” also has The Academy talking. The hit Broadway musical is coming to the big screen.
“In that we have Russell Crowe, Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway. There are a lot of fans of the show, I know its running downtown again so you’ll have a lot of fans coming out for that movie,” said Mazrimas.
Other films coming out this season include the Tom Cruise action flick, “Jack Reacher,” comedies “Parental Guidance” starring Billy Crystal and Bette Midler, and Judd Apatow’s “This is 40” featuring Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann, a spin-off of the 2007 film, “Knocked Up.”
