History on Display

Letters, poems, and land surveys are a few of the historical items that are on display at North Central College. The college is hosting an exhibit of historical artifacts as a part of its sesquicentennial celebration. The display includes reproductions of three donated collections that are in the Oesterle Library’s archives.

Philanthropist, collector, and honorary North Central College Trustee, Philip Sang donated his collection of items signed by a majority of the nation’s presidents. These donations included signatures by former presidents George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.

“While the documents themselves don’t specifically pertain to the college, both the college and the community’s history is reflected in these presidential papers.” Said Kim Butler, archivist at North Central College.

Alumnus Harris Fawell’s gifts to the college created the archive’s Congressional Papers Collection. The third collection includes the papers of Arlo L. Schilling, North Central’s seventh president.

Members of the public can view the “Signatures Collection/Archival Exhibit” at the Schoenherr Gallery at the Wentz Concert Hall and Fine Arts Center for free until January 8th.
