For Eileen Dioguardi and her husband David, family is everything.
Being one of ten, and having nine kids herself, Eileen wanted to spend time with her family for her 53rd wedding anniversary. A tough order as she’s been recovering at Naperville’s ManorCare from surgery in December and her family is spread across the Chicagoland area.
“They’ve been unbelievable. They come here to see me and visit with me and everything, nephews and nieces and everything is just unbelievable,” said Eileen Dioguardi.
Eileen and her family have learned to make the most of every day ever since David was diagnosed with Mesothelioma and given four months to live back in 2011.
Four years later, after a successful experimental treatment, David is in good health and family has been a constant through it all.
That’s why administrators at ManorCare in Naperville chose Eileen as a candidate for the Heart’s Desire campaign.
“It’s been around since about 1997, and we strive through that program to identify individuals who have unique desires and wishes that otherwise, without the involvement of somebody else, to make that happen. We really look to fulfill that desire, that heart’s desire of what would make a great experience for that individual,” said Chris Beymer, an administrator at ManorCare Health Services.
So on January 26, their anniversary, the couple was picked up in a limo and taken to Walkers Charhouse where they were met by more than 30 family members.
“We did not have either of them with us for Christmas, so this is like our Christmas, and their birthdays and their anniversary all wrapped into one! So for us, it’s really extra special,” said daughter Domani Tripam.
“I’m married now for nine years. It’ll be nine years in October, and I hope my marriage is even half of what my parent’s marriage is,” said daughter Sara Aguilar.
With a love for their family and a love for each other, Dave and Eileen are a perfect example of a couple that takes advantage of all that life has to offer; and their secret to success is simple.
“Make sure you kiss her goodnight, make sure you kiss her in the morning, and in between keep your mouth shut,” said David Dioguardi.
Luxury Travelers, SDRS Creative Design and Walkers Charhouse also helped make this memory to last a lifetime.
