They say good things come in threes, and for this family that rings true.
The Smilgiene family brought home the last of their brood this week, after a hospital stay of just over six months.
Triplets Simias, Vicktorija and Lukas were born at 25 weeks back in August, weighing less than two pounds each. Simias and Vicktorija went home after a five-month stay at the Edward NICU and now Lukas will join them at home.
Though the family lives in Orland Park, they chose Edward when it was time to deliver.
“It’s nice that the family had the confidence to come here from another location. It’s an amazing success for the team because it’s a lot of teamwork that goes into a very long stay for three little babies,” said Medical Director of the Edward NICU, Dr. Bob Covert M.D.
The Smilgiene babies weren’t the smallest delivered at Edward Hospital. Baby Zoe was born in 2004 at just 10.8 ounces and is a healthy 12-year-old today.
