The start of flu season varies by state, but you can expect it to begin here some time before the end of the month.
To reduce your chances of getting sick, the CDC recommends annual flu shots for anyone 6 months and older.
“Really over the years it’s been so much easier for people to get flu vaccines. Years ago it wasn’t quite as easy; now it is,” said Davis Hass, the Communications Manager for the DuPage County Health Department. “So we would tell them, when you’re at the Walgreens or you’re at that pharmacy getting something, make sure you get that flu shot because it really helps you stay healthy during the flu season!”
About two weeks after the shot, the flu vaccine causes antibodies to develop in the body, providing protection against the virus.
Taking this precaution can be a lifesaver, especially for those over the age of 65, who can be at higher risk for flu-related complications.
