An Ebola case has been reported here in the states. Though the news has some concerned, medical experts say the chances of it spreading through our nation is close to zero.
Regardless, the staff at Edward Hospital is taking precautions, so if the disease does happen to surface, they are prepared.
“Our planning here at Edward that was specific to Ebola began with staff in our emergency department. And we’ve been providing them with information and resources for quite some time,” said Infection Control Manager for Edward Hospital, Mary Anderson. “That planning expanded to inpatient side, so if a patient gets admitted to the hospital we are prepared. We are asking more questions at initial points of contact about travel history, so really important for everyone of our front-line staff members to be ready and know what to do and how to respond.”
Edward began training their staff two months ago, with their proximity to O’hare, a major airport hub hosting international travelers, they thought it wise to have a plan in place.
As per the CDC, the virus can only be spread through contact with bodily fluids like blood.
