One thousand flags blanketed Metea Valley High School’s practice football field to create “The Healing Field,” a tribute to our veterans who sacrificed their time, and sometimes their lives, to protect our nation.
“When you walk amongst those flags you really get a spirit of pride and patriotism that we are trying to impart amongst our students,” said school Principal, Dr. Darrel Echols.
From November 4 through 11, the public can stroll among the flags, even purchasing a remembrance sheet to tag a single flag in honor of a hero, family member, or loved one that fought for our country. Proceeds will go toward funding local high schools.
At the close of the event, individuals are able to take their flags home as a special memento. Metea will also pay tribute to those who serve our county with a free concert on Veteran’s Day in their auditorium.
