Eight local celebs have given it all they’ve got on the dance floor, but only one of them took home the trophy at this year’s Third Annual Dancing With Celebrities.
Local stars were invited to strut their stuff alongside Naperville’s most talented dance professionals for the Event.
This year’s line-up included; Tellab’s, Mark Peek, Fitness columnist, Nicki Anderson, Naperville School District 204’s Superintendent, Kathy Birkett, Head Chef at Sullivan’s Steakhouse, Terrell Cole, Zano Hair Salon and Day Spa Owner, Denise Provenzano, Margi Schiemann from Nicor Gas, Naperville Attorney, Fred Spitzerri, and Navistar’s Joe Massicotte.
Audience member, Karen Kalejs drove from West Chicago to see the event. “I’m a closet dancing with the stars fan so I love it, yes!”
The fundraiser also included a silent auction and raffle drawing. The most popular item to bid on was a private dinner for ten, made by celeb, Terrell Cole. A prize auctioned off to two different people at $3,000 a piece.
All proceeds benefit Naperville’s Community Career Center. An organization that helps job seekers find employers.
“It’s an opportunity for us to really get our name out there, to people who may not know who we are, and watch some fabulous dancing, and yeah, have a good time.,” said Kim White, Executive Director of the Community Career Center.
Naperville Sun Journalist, Nicki Anderson started rehearsing weeks ago with her dance partner Mateo Catalan at Celebrity Dance Studio in Downers Grove. “Now, I know all the hard work I did, in essence, is going to pay off to help somebody land that job, and get back on their feet and make a difference.”
Dancer, Margi Schiemann knows how important the event is to the organization, after spending seven years as their board president. “In the end, it’s not about us, it’s about the thousands of job seekers.”
Judges were responsible for choosing winners of the eight different individual awards, like “best shimmy,” which was just what Nicki Anderson demonstrated as she accepted her award.
But the final vote was up to the audience.
Terrell Cole and his dance partner, Jaana Lillegmai were the fan-favorites with their hip-hop routine to Salt-N-Pepa’s “Push it.”
After performing an encore, Cole reflected on his winning moment. “The last two dances were awesome, so I though it could have been anybody.”
“He looked like he was an expert dancer so it was hard to compete against him,” said audience member, Kathy Piehl.
In the end, the event paid off to the tune of $35,000 for the charity.
Meson Sabika hopes to once again host the event next year. Organizers say there will definitely be a fourth installment of Dancing With Celebrities.
