Keeping Native American heritage alive was the goal of the 19th annual Harvest Pow Wow held at Naper Settlement.
Traditional Native American dances and songs were performed, visitors could also explore tee-pees, and buy Native American clothing and goods; all to raise awareness about Native American heritage.
The importance is obviously to keep our culture alive,” said Joseph Standing Bear Schranz, the founder of Midwest SOARRING Foundation. “And if you see the young kids, they know who they are and they know their culture. They practice it and live it.”
The main event is the grand entrance, which includes choreographed dances and drum performances.
This year, the Midwest SOARRING Foundation also honored local veterans during the program through dance.
The Pow Wow is the biggest fundraiser for the Midwest SOARRING Foundation and the money helps them pay for their various events throughout the year.
