It was truly a night to remember as the wizarding world gathered at the Release of the party that shall not be named for the book release of ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.’
“Oh my gosh Naperville has converted into Muggleville tonight! What an exciting night in downtown Naperville, so J.K. Rowling announced late last year that she was going to come out with a book, which surprised everyone, so it’s been nine years since the last book came out so everyone’s been wondering what has harry potter been doing over the last nine years so tonight everyone’s going to find out so its been a day of celebration along with activities, about 50 downtown businesses took part, it’s just been a great day lots of happy faces here tonight,” said Katie Wood, Executive Director of the Downtown Naperville Alliance.
Despite the generation gap, just over 10,000 people, young and old, took to the streets to enjoy live entertainment, costume contests and much more before J.K. Rowling’s long awaited release.
“I just kind of want to relive my childhood and relive the feeling that I felt when I was at the midnight releases of all the other Harry Potter books so many years ago I wont say how old I was so I just want to relive the magic and see it all again,” said Harry Potter Fans, Lisa Donato & Ellen Fitzgerald
“I don’t know we’re just really excited, nobody ever thought there was going to be another Harry Potter book out since they finished the series and now there is and it’s like woah oh my gosh there’s another book oh my gosh dying,” said Harry Potter Fans, Neras Gorener, Declan Fiorucci and Bella Fiorucci.
“I’m super excited I love Harry Potter books it’s one of my favorite books ever and the movies and I’ve been waiting so long for this book to come and I’m super excited,” said Harry Potter fans, Ava Morse & Sophia Ibarrola.
“For me honestly its just about getting my kids to love to read and ive noticed that in all seriousness that in his school he is really excelling in the reading department and I do credit a lot of that to the harry potter series,” said Harry Potter fans, Joe, Michael, and DJ Alstadt.
Andersons Bookshop had 4,000 copies of the 320-page book between all three locations with about 1,600 sold and reserved.
“I didn’t know if we were going to get a turn out but we did and I have never seen such joy with families and kids, everyone just having a great time over books over these characters that I don’t think we will ever see this again for a book,” said Co-owner of Anderson’s Bookshop, Becky Anderson.
Just before midnight, Harry Potter fans lined up outside Anderson’s Bookshop and together they celebrated the release.
