Outdoor enthusiasts are now able to try a different route.
Members of the community recently gathered together to celebrate the ribbon cutting for the Greene Valley Trail. The trail is a 1500-foot path linking to an existing 11-mile trail system throughout DuPage County.
Before now runners, bikers, and hikers had to use 79th street to reach the Greene Valley Trail system, which is a two-lane township road without sidewalks or shoulders.
“What we looked for was a solution.” Said Gerry Cassioppi, a member of 79th Street Committee. “We’ve found a way that was cost effective and addressed the solution, addressed the problem and created a very positive solution.”
Four local agencies including the Naperville Park District, the city of Naperville, the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County, and the Lisle Township Highway Department, united together to raise funds for the project.
