The Forest Preserve District of DuPage County has been maintaining the Greene Farm Barn since 1971.
Something they plan to continue, following a recent vote.
“The Forest Preserve District voted unanimously to support the rehabilitation of the barn. What that means is that the Forest Preserve will continue its commitment to maintaining it and making sure it’s in good shape and won’t deteriorate further,” said Mary Lou Wehrli, District 5 Commissioner with the Forest Preserve, and longtime Greene Farm Barn champion.
Located at the corner of Hobson and Greene Rd., the 19th century barn is used for the scenic pleasure of DuPage County citizens, something that will continue thanks to the nearly $30,000 allotted for its maintenance.
“So this rehabilitation phase is just to identity cracks in the wood, in the concrete and the masonry, which is not very many because it recently underwent a very thorough stabilization,” said Wehrli.
DuPage County’s largest barn was originally owned by the Greene family, along with 200 acres of what is now Greene Valley Forest Preserve.
The barn previously underwent a $1.1 million stabilization project, which was completed in 2012.
