Governor Pat Quinn stopped by the DuPage County boardroom to sign a bill that will give the county the power to dissolve smaller units of government.
Senate Bill 494 would affect as many as 13 entities such as the County Airport Authority, County Fair and Exposition Authority, and Sanitary Districts.
Under the new law the county board would have to dissolve the authorities by ordinance, including a hearing before the vote.
Before a voter referendum was required to dissolve appointed boards and authorities.
“Everybody in every county is entitled to 100 cents of their hard- earned money, especially when it goes to taxes to fund government,” said Quinn. “But we don’t want to have excessive government, government that’s unnecessary, that’s duplicative.”
