You’ve heard of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, but what about Giving Tuesday?
Loaves & Fishes Food Pantry was one of thousands of non-profits who recently participated in Giving Tuesday, a national day started just last year to help kick off the giving season.
The organization promoted the event through social media, and collected monetary donations throughout the day, including a contribution from an anonymous donor who matched each dollar donated up to $25,000.
“We just brought this to their attention, this whole idea of a national giving day,” said Matthew Chicola, Advancement Coordinator at Loaves & Fishes. “It just so happened that they were interested and wanted to create a match, and helping us create a goal.”
Overall, the pantry collected more than $97,000 to help feed the hungry.
Loaves & Fishes served a record amount of clients around the Thanksgiving holiday and expects to see that trend increase into the winter holidays.
Other Naperville groups participating in Giving Tuesday included 360 Youth Services, Little Friends INC., and NapervilleCARES.
