Now in its fourth year, this global day of giving is traditionally celebrated on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, and puts a focus on philanthropy to start off the holiday season.
Several not-for-profits in our area are taking part, including Loaves & Fishes, who hopes to raise $200,000 on Giving Tuesday to expand their infant care initiative.
“Essentially we’re going to be purchasing prenatal vitamins, as well as baby formula, diapers and baby food so really we’re looking to tackle all of child hunger,” said Matthew Chicola, Director of External Relations for Loaves & Fishes Community Services.
Many other local charities are seeking donations on December 1st including the Naperville Area Humane Society, Naperville CARES, Bridge Communities, the DuPage Children’s Museum and your very own community television station, NCTV17.
The giving doesn’t have to stop on Tuesday, as many organizations accept donations all year long.
