Two Naperville not-for-profits came together to help fight hunger in DuPage County.
Over the 2012 holiday season the Naperville Jaycees donated 12,500 pounds of food to Loaves & Fishes Food Pantry. They followed that up in February with a check for $5,000.
“We start giving out spring holiday food next week,” said Jody Bender, the Community Relations Director for Loaves & Fishes. “It can help with that meal as well. Also, a dollar goes so far with us. Every dollar is ten dollars on our shelf so it really helps when we have to put food on so many tables.”
“We’re not calling out people, or saying ‘Oh, John Smith doesn’t have enough food,’” said Shoshana Frank, Chair of the Naperville Jaycees Holiday Food Baskets. “We’re just helping everyone to be able to make ends meet and have that family experience that’s so important during the holidays”
The Jaycees work to give back to the community through fundraising efforts and volunteer service.
