The Science of Trees
There’s a new living exhibit at the Morton Arboretum.
Gateway to Tree Science is giving a close up look at tree care and functions, as well as the research efforts the arboretum has put into a greener future.
“A lot of times it’s hard to connect to some of the science we do because it takes so long and we don’t do it in the public eye,” said Forest Ecologist Christy Rollinson. “The Gateway really showcases the breadth of research we do here. So we’ve got a short little loop that goes through natural areas, my specialty, so that you can understand trees in their natural habitats before we start putting them in the kind of urban or more built environments that people tend to interact with it.”
About The Exhibit
Five different sections of the half-mile loop feature a look at the many facets of trees, including care, cultivation, and soil.
The living exhibit features over 170 newly planted trees and shrubs, which will grow and change over time in the exhibit.
The Gateway to Tree Science exhibit is located on the east side of the arboretum near the oak collection.
