Eight local stars are hitting the dance floor to make a difference.
This week, we take a continued look at the four remaining competitors hoping to take home the trophy at the Third Annual Dancing With Celebrities.
Local dance professionals have welcomed some of Naperville’s most well-known people into their studios to prepare for a fundraising event.
Margi Schiemann, Mark Peek, Denise Provenzano, and Joe Massicotti, are all stepping out of their comfort zones, and onto the dance floor for this year’s Third Annual Dancing With Celebrities.
All proceeds benefit Naperville’s Community Career Center. Dancer Margi Schiemann knows how important the event is to the organization, after spending seven years as their Board President.
“It’s a huge part of our financials, I mean we rely on the success of this event in order to continue to provide the services that we offer to job seekers,” said Schiemann.
For the past two years, Schiemann’s dance instructor, James Dutton, has won it all. “We’ve already cleaned off some space on her mantel for the third one which is going be good, so watch out, but I think it’s going to be great. She’s doing great, she’s dancing awesome. We’ll take the cake, you watch,” said Dutton.
But, Kelly Lakomy, and her celebrity dance partner Mark Peek, are hoping to break Dutton’s cycle by wowing the judges with a 50’s hand-jive routine. “It would be really nice to actually take his trophy from him,” said Kelly.
Winning the competition would be a plus for Peek, who never thought he could do this. “I think it’s making me more confident I am doing something that I haven’t done before and it’s making me more confident in everything that I do.”
During last year’s event, Salon Owner Denise Provenzano watched from the audience. This time she will be in on the action, performing to a packed house. “As amateurs, just getting us out there and I think getting over the fear is a big part of it so, my goal is to just go out and have fun,” Provenzano added.
The event is just weeks away, and even a delayed flight couldn’t stop one performer from rehearsal. Joe Massicotte’s first stop back from a business trip was to the Dupage Dance Studio.
The stars will show off all their tricks on the night of, but until then, are only giving a sneak peak.
These four couples will join Fred Spitzzeri, Nicki Anderson, Terrel Cole, and Kathy Birkett along with their dance pro’s for the event at Meson Sabika.
The event to be held on September 12th will also feature a silent auction, and live raffle, all benefiting the Career Center.
Tickets for the event are sold out, but viewers can catch all of the action here on NCTV. Visit our website for air times.
