Newly sworn in Congressman Bill Foster spoke in front of the Naperville Chamber of Commerce for the first time since he was chosen to represent the 11th district.
The Chamber’s legislative meeting started out with the Congressman stating his goals for his term. The businessman and former scientist wants to make sure Illinois is getting what it deserves from the federal government.
“I think there really should be bipartisan support, with the entire Illinois delegation, on the issue of Illinois being a donor state. It turns out that of all of the federal tax money we pay, for every dollar, we only get seventy five cents back,” says Foster. “That is tens of billions of dollars that flow out of Illinois every year and that’s not ok with me.”
Foster says he supports what is best for his district.
“The opportunities to get back a better share of federal spending are in transportation and infrastructure which is an area we all know the entire country, and especially Illinois, need investment in,” Foster explains. “And the national laboratories, the district I represent spans both Argon and Fermilab. And, so it’s something I have an interest in, not just as a Congressman, but as a recovering scientist.”
The Naperville Chamber of Commerce is planning a trip to Washington D.C. for the U.S. Chamber conference at the end of April where they hope to meet with Foster again.
