Residents hit hardest during last April’s flooding now have another opportunity to get federal assistance.
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced nearly $19 million in additional disaster relief funding for DuPage County residents impacted by the record storms and flooding in April of 2013.
The funds are part of HUD’s Community Development Block Grant program to assist areas with the greatest amount of “unmet need.”
The CDBG Disaster Recovery grants are designed to help fund housing, business, and infrastructure needs that weren’t covered under other public and private assistance.
By using data from FEMA and the Small Business Administration, HUD designated DuPage and Cook Counties as “the most impacted and distressed.”
Since that April 2013 flood, HUD has given DuPage County almost $26 million in long-term disaster recovery funding.
