Loaves and Fishes Community Pantry is looking for more volunteers as the number of families seeking assistance continues to grow.
During a recent open house, staff gave a tour of their facility and held an orientation for people interested in helping.
They’re looking for help picking up food from partnering stores like trader Joes, Costco, and Jewel, as well as help in their warehouse sorting perishable donations.
Loaves and Fishes staff say volunteers are the bread and butter behind the mission.
“They play a huge role,” said April Eichele, Volunteer Manager at Loaves and Fishes. “Without our volunteers, we couldn’t do any of this.”
45 people signed up at the open house, hoping to make a difference. The community pantry provides free food to more than 600 low-income families each week, that’s up more than 70% from last year.
