A human case of West Nile has surfaced in Dupage County.
A woman in Downer’s Grove was diagnosed with the virus and is the first to be reported in the county this year.
West Nile Virus is contracted from mosquitoes. Most people infected show no symptoms, but a small number can develop mild to fatal illnesses.
Due to warm and dry temperatures, the Dupage County Health Department has warned about a higher risk for infection.
Residents are encouraged to use bug spray, wear long pants when going outdoors, and empty standing water outside of their homes.
Testings at six Naperville sites have all been found positive for the virus.
City crews will spray the area and retest weekly in an effort to completely remove the virus.
**Since aired another case of the West Nile Virus has been reported. A man in Villa Park has contracted the virus as well.
