The Naperville Fire Department has received international accreditation. Back in June, representatives from the Center for Public Safety Excellence spent a week reviewing the department.
At a recent award dinner the fire department received not only accreditation, but a Legacy Award as well, which means they have been accredited for more than 15 years. Naperville is one of only three departments in the world to receive the honor.
“It’s not something that many departments have been able to achieve or even can achieve,” said Mark Puknaitis, Chief, Naperville Fire Department. “So we’re extremely proud to be able to represent Naperville as certainly one of the best. We cannot only say that, we can prove it.”
To qualify, the fire department must meet more than 250 performance indicators such as response time, public education, training and budgeting.
The Naperville Police Department is also seeking accreditation. They recently had a team of assessors from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcements Agencies come and examine their procedures, policies, and performances, and also talked with members of the public.
