Since 2008 the Rotary Club of Naperville has been hosting their highly successful fundraising event Soups On! And this year they went out with a bang for their final farewell food tour.
“There’s a lot of needs within the community and events do run their course, so we feel that we want to make sure we go out when it’s still on top, everyone really enjoys the event, we don’t want to wear it out so to speak, and we have other needs within the community and the Rotary Club of Naperville is looking into it in that point, and they will identify another group that’s in need, that we’ll help,” said Bill Garlough, Co-Chair of Soups On!
Over the past eight years, the fundraiser has brought in over $1 million with 100% of its proceeds going to local charities including: Loaves & Fishes Community Services, DuPage PADS, and Hesed House.
“It’s been such a tremendous help to us, feeding the homeless and sheltering the homeless over the last 8 years,” said Board of Trustees Chairperson for Hesed House, John Ball.
“You see so many people come out, or so many people from the community come out and support these organizations and that’s an incredible thing, it speaks volumes on what Naperville is,” said Megan Selck, President and CEO of Loaves and Fishes Community Services.
“We’re most thankful for is over $250,000 over the last eight years and more importantly the Rotary and the recognition that hunger and homelessness do exist in our community,” said Carol Simler, President and CEO of DuPage PADS.
For the final farewell, visitors got a chance to get a taste of soup and other treats from local restaurants all while giving back.
And while this event may be coming to an end, the Rotary Club says there’s much to look forward to for the upcoming year.
“It’s kind of a secret, they have three or four different kinds of events that they’re looking into next year,” said Roy Bynum, Member of the Rotary Club of Naperville.
