Four local high schools recently teamed up to kick breast cancer The Neuqua Valley, Waubonsie Valley, Naperville North, and Naperville Central girls soccer teams added some pink to their school colors, and held a fundraiser at North Central College.
District 204 teams battled District 203. Between the two matches, the girls formed a survivors circle where the athletes presented a flower to cancer survivors in attendance.
“My mission in life has become very clear to be that voice for survivorship and help educate and empower and encourage those whose lives has been effected by breast cancer and for this I am forever grateful,” said Johnson.
Mayor Pradel along with Mrs. Illinois, Zara Johnson, a breast cancer survivor herself, was on hand to offer a few encouraging words. Naperville Central beat Waubonsie Valley two to one, and North beat Neuqua two to zero.
At the end of the day the only number that mattered was 5,000, approximately the number of dollars these teams raised to defeat breast cancer. The money came from 50-50 raffles, silent auctions and t-shirt sales. The proceeds supported the Edward Foundation, Free Mammogram Program and Camp Hope.
