If you like to throw caution to the wind, chances are, you may like to throw colored powder to the wind too. Simply Vedic Cultural Society celebrated their annual Festival of Colors by tossing vibrant powder at family, friends and even strangers.
“Everyone just laughs and enjoys it and the whole community comes together. People you don’t even know are pelting you with colored powder and it’s simple, it’s silly, but it’s fun,” said Carolyn Flakus, who attends the fest every year with her daughter, Robyn.
For some, it’s not all fun and games. This year marks the fifth year for the fest, and it continues to grow.
“It gotten much bigger. Every year we have to keep buying more shipments of powder because we keep running out,” said Nikhil Tank, an eighth grader who volunteers each year.
The idea behind Festival of Colors is to celebrate the passing of winter and welcome spring. It also lends an opportunity to forgive others and throw your worries to the wind.
“I just throw the colors and make some friends and make some enemies,” laughs Tank.
