It turns out federal regulators have known for several years that the Naperville trucking company involved in a fatal crash had a history of violations.
The federal motor carrier safety administration took a brief enforcement action against the company, DND International, in 2011 but soon ended it without enforcing compliance with regulations.
It wasn’t until after one of DND’s drivers, Renato Velasquez, killed a toll way worker and injured a state trooper on Interstate-88 this January that the feds forced the carrier to shut down its operations.
Violations include falsifying logbooks and having drivers on the road for too long without breaks.
To have their band lifted, DND International must submit an eight-part plan to the government detailing how it will comply with specific regulations.
