A program that started eight years ago to help find elderly people with memory problems who had wandered from home has evolved and is helping more people in our community.
Fastrack recently received money from The Exchange Club to help keep the program free for residents who want to participate.
“The program uses bracelets and radio technology to help find someone when they’ve wandered too far from home,” said Sgt. Brad Marsh.
Fastrack emphasizes relationships between the search team members and the people who wander before the need for a rescue arises.
Team members are trained, not only in the use of the tracking equipment, but also in techniques used in communicating with disoriented persons.
Naperville residents diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease, Down Syndrome, Autism, have a full time caregiver or who pose a risk of wandering with communication issues qualify for the program.
