A favorite holiday pastime is once again on track to be just as popular as ever.
Each year, the enchanted railroad attracts thousands of visitors at Morton arboretum – many of who are often aw-struck at the elaborate railroad system that runs through an indoor winter wonderland.
“It’s really neat to see a lot of the kids coming in [and] parents [and] grandparents,” said Janelle Hardtke, Special Events Manager for Morton Arboretum. “Event adults enjoy it.”
Since 2001, the LGB Model Railroad Club of Chicago has volunteered over a thousand hours, fine-tuning the tracks, trains, and scenery.
“If it weren’t for the kids – it’s just super to see how much they enjoy it,” said Jim Snorek, an officer for the club.”
Now the railroad is closer to the ground, making it easier for children to get right near the action. Also new this year – one of the trains actually has a camera inside of it so families can get a glimpse of what it’s like to ride one of these trains.
“It’s just wonderful,” said Amy Jun, of Wheaton. “It’s great for little kids to watch. There are so many different activities.”
The enchanted railroad is open every day, except for Christmas day and Christmas eve, until January 6th, from 9am to 4pm.
