A more than $63 million expansion project to the west building of the Naperville Edward Hospital campus has been in the works for almost a year and is well underway.
Intensive care and medical surgical patients will benefit from the extra two stories because they will provide 60 extra beds and a gym for physical therapy.
Hospital officials say the additional space is critical to better serve patients.
“We have been full on many occasions,” said Pam Davis, the hospital’s President and CEO. “That is where we actually have no beds available for patients that need to come into a hospital setting. Sadly, many times, they are waiting in the emergency department until another patient is discharged so that a bed is available.”
The construction is planned to finish up by this time next year.
