Edward-Elmhurst Health Hosts Candlelight Vigil for Eating Disorders

The Speakers

Linden Oaks Behavioral Health at Edward-Elmhurst Health hosted their 16th annual Candlelight Vigil for Eating Disorders.

About 100 people attended, listening to speakers who told their personal success stories on how they’ve recovered from their eating disorder.

“I thought to myself if I can just get through this one bite, this one meal without listening to ED [eating disorder], I would be okay,” said speaker Janelle Knippen.

The Theme

This year’s theme was “embracing transformation and becoming the change,” providing support and hope to recovering individuals.

“This is also to remember those who we’ve lost, to remember those who are still struggling, those who we need to support and show that type of recovery and change is possible,” said Dr. Erin Terada.

One pair of parents shared how they lost their daughter, Aubrey Clark, who died as a result of her eating disorder. Her mother reminded those recovering, that their disorder is not their fault.

The program ended with a candle lighting ceremony.
