On October 8, students ditched the bus and took to the sidewalks for International Walk to School Day.
Eight elementary schools in Naperville registered for the worldwide event that promotes health, safety, and of course – fun.
“It is an event to promote walking to school. Our students promote it through making posters and talking about how it’s green and saves the earth, and how we’re not polluting,” said Gwen Bockman, Principal of Maplebrook Elementary School.
Every year, the event helps communities increase personal connections and decrease traffic congestion.
It also teaches students the importance of a clean environment and healthy habit.
This year, International Walk to School Day had more than 4,500 schools register for events.
