Some mornings it can be a struggle to get your kids out the door and off to school, but this morning many students were eager and ready to go.
“I’m walking to school,” said Prairie Elementary second grader Catherine.
Students from across Naperville, and across the world, participated in this year’s International Walk and Bike to School Day.
But walking wasn’t just for the kids, many parents and other special guests also walked to show their support for the movement.
“Happy because I get to walk to school with the Mayor,” said Catherine.
This year, Mayor Chirico, along with District 203 board members Jackie Romberg and Kristin Fitzgerald accompanied families walking to Prairie Elementary.
Originally started in 1997 as a one-day event, Walk to School Day promotes the need for safe, walkable routes to schools and brings awareness to the health benefits of walking and biking.
