Neuqua Valley High School students were in for an extra surprise at their annual “Red Carpet Rally.”
A full list of student accomplishments, a guitar solo, and the National Anthem, Neuqua Valley kicked off their star-studded assembly.
The speech, swim, and cheer teams were just some of the groups that walked the red carpet to be recognized for their remarkable seasons.
But the whole school got the biggest honor when they discovered they were one of 90 schools nationwide to win State Farm Insurance’s “Celebrate My Drive” contest, a distinction that came with a $25,000 check.
“It’s basically students, staff, community saying ‘I’m going to commit to safe driving’. We do it for ten days straight so they have to go on the website and log in with their email address and as a result after ten days they tally how many commitments were made and we were one of the top 100 schools, so we won the $25,000 award,” said Bill Casey, Department Chair of PE/Health/Driver’s Education.
At least 10% is required to go into the driver’s education program, but Neuqua plans to up that to allow for updated technology.
The remaining cash will go towards the renovation of their outdated cardio room so all students can finally use it.
