Volunteers, students and district officials held an official ribbon cutting ceremony for the school’s all new edible garden.
This was a special event for Elmwood alum, and new Mayor of Naperville, Steve Chirico.
The garden features 16 raised beds, providing each classroom with their own 4×4 garden plot to maintain.
Potatoes, onions and tomatoes are just a few things students are expecting to grow.
Classrooms will use the “fruits of their labor” for tasting and harvesting produce that relates to their social studies curriculum.
Any additional harvest will be donated to the nearby Loaves and Fishes Community Pantry.
Beebe and Prairie elementary schools also have similar garden programs.
