The District 204 school board is keeping an active eye on a new piece of legislation.
Though Senate Bill 16, aimed to change the way schools are funded by the state, met its demise in December with the close of the State Assembly, it could be reinvented in the new Senate Bill 1, which is currently being shaped up into this year’s school funding reform legislation.
District 204 Superintendent, Karen Sullivan reminded the board that this bill could be crucial in determining the future of the district’s budget.
“It is going to address some of the shortcomings of the previous bill that we talked about. Once the language is posted ISBE will be running the numbers and we will have a new chart, but staying on top of this legislation and how District 204 proceeds is a top priority,” Sullivan said.
There is no breakdown of the bill just yet but district officials will keep the public informed as the bill comes forward.
