At the most recent Board of Education meeting, school officials discussed increasing the price of Drivers Ed for students at Naperville North and Naperville Central.
Currently, Drivers Ed costs $250, the maximum amount allowed under Illinois School Code. However, the District plans to seek a waiver with the state, which Could allow the fee to be up to $400.
Right now, the total cost for each student to take Drivers Ed is $418, with $250 currently being covered by the student and the rest paid for by the District.
“The law allows us to go up to a maximum of 400, at this time our recommendation is 300 for fiscal year 16-17, our thought, we would consider incremental increases but the statute requires we make our intended fee clear,” said Dan Bridges, Superintendent of District 203.
The proposed $50 increase would bring in an additional $52,500 in revenue per year.
There will be a public hearing for the fee increase at the regularly scheduled board meeting on August 17th.
