Katherine Applegate, the award winning and New York Times Bestselling Author of stories like “Animorphs”, and “The One and Only Ivan”, stopped by Peterson Elementary to talk about her newest book, “Crenshaw”.
It follows the story of Jackson, a young boy whose family finds themselves falling on hard times, when an imaginary friend, Crenshaw appears. Applegate wrote the book to shine a light on the issue of child hunger in the United States.
More than 1,000 third grade students came to the assembly where she answered their questions and shared with them her favorite perks of the job.
“I have the best job in the world, I am paid to be a slob and a liar – because I can write in my pajamas all day and make up stories. It is seriously the best job ever and I encourage all of you – if you like writing keep doing it,” said Applegate.
Crenshaw will make his big screen debut in 2017 thanks to Disney.
