The District 203 school board is re-considering an early start date for the next school year following criticism from parents.
The board previously approved beginning the 2013-2014 year on August 14th, but more than 900 parents petitioned against that plan, saying it cuts into end of summer commitments.
The district wanted the earlier start date so students could complete final exams for the first semester by winter holidays while balancing the number of days between both semesters.
The school board agreed to let Superintendent Dan Bridges bring a revised calendar to them at their October first meeting.
He’s expected to push the start date back to the third week of August.
