The key to boosting tourism in DuPage is by joining forces and opening the lines of communication.
That’s the backbone of “GPS: A Tourism Roadmap:” the new strategic plan launched by the DuPage Convention and Visitors Bureau, and unveiled at a program at Glendale Lakes Golf Club.
The organization would like to see more collaboration between the 38 communities that make up the county, along with improved internal cooperation among tourism related organizations.
“If there isn’t that type of synergy and collaboration going on, frankly we’re letting those external competitors win, and steal market share,” said Mitch Nichols, DCVB tourism consultant. “So that cooperate internally, compete externally mantra I think is going to be something critically important going forward.”
Those steps, along with providing more offerings and a greater marketing outreach, will be put in place in the hopes of stopping a decline in DuPage County’s market share, and growing what is currently a $2.5 billion tourism industry.
Public input from more than 200 individuals and groups helped form the new strategic plan.
